E-vignette in Romania
Romania uses an electronic road vignette, locally known as the rovinieta. You need a valid e-vignette when using the Romanian national road network, including motorways, expressways and national roads.
There is no physical sticker. Your e-vignette is registered electronically and linked to your vehicle.
Since 1 October 2026, the price of a Romanian e-vignette depends on three things: your vehicle category, emission standard and the selected validity period.

Have your vehicle registration certificate ready when ordering. You will need to provide the vehicle's registration country, license plate, VIN, vehicle category and emission standard.
Choose the required validity period and start date, check your vehicle details carefully and complete the payment. Once your e-vignette has been registered, you will receive your confirmation electronically.

Romania uses four vehicle categories for the e-vignette.
Passenger car
This category applies to passenger cars with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 t, used for private or business purposes.
Van (≤ 3.5 t)
This category covers vans and light commercial vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 t.
Bus (9–23 seats)
This category applies to buses with a seating capacity between 9 and 23 seats, including the driver.
Bus (> 23 seats)
This category covers buses with more than 23 seats, including the driver.
The Romanian e-vignette does not cover all toll roads and crossings. Several major bridges have a separate toll that must be paid in addition to your e-vignette.
If your route includes one of the crossings below, check the current toll and payment options before travelling.
The Calafat – Vidin Bridge crosses the Danube between Calafat in Romania and Vidin in Bulgaria. It is an important route for traffic travelling between Romania, Bulgaria and the rest of the Balkans.
A separate bridge toll applies. Payment options and current rates are available on the bridge operator's website.
The Giurgiu – Ruse Bridge, also known as the Friendship Bridge, connects southern Romania with northern Bulgaria and is a major route between Bucharest and Sofia.
The toll arrangements depend on the direction of travel. Since 1 October 2026, no bridge toll is charged on the Romanian side, while a toll is still collected on the Bulgarian side. Check the current rates and payment options before travelling.
The Fetești – Cernavodă crossing is located on the A2 motorway between Bucharest and Constanța and is one of the main routes to the Romanian Black Sea coast.
The bridge toll is separate from the Romanian e-vignette and must be paid separately. Online payment options are available.
The Giurgeni – Vadu Oii Bridge is located on the DN2A and connects Giurgeni with Vadu Oii across the Danube.
A separate bridge toll applies to this crossing. Check the current rates and available payment methods before travelling.
The price depends on your vehicle category, emission standard and selected validity period. The current total price is shown when you select your vehicle and e-vignette at the top of this page.
Use the Euro emission standard stated in your vehicle registration documents. Electric vehicles should be registered as electric.
Goods vehicles with a maximum permissible mass of up to 3.5 tonnes use the e-vignette system. Goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are subject to Romania's distance-based TollRo system instead.
You select the start date when ordering. If you choose the current day, the e-vignette becomes valid once the payment and registration have been confirmed.
No. The Romanian e-vignette is completely electronic. Your vehicle details are registered digitally, so there is nothing to attach to your windscreen.
No. Certain bridges have a separate toll that is not included in the Romanian e-vignette. This includes crossings such as Calafat – Vidin, Giurgiu – Ruse, Fetești – Cernavodă and Giurgeni – Vadu Oii.
Romania is one of several European countries that use an electronic vignette system. Travelling through multiple countries? Check which e-vignettes you need before your journey and purchase them online in advance.
